Football fans unite for double-header in Canberra

B2B Editor3 February 2017

Finals fever is coming to the Territory with our very own Canberra United ready to take on Melbourne City at GIO Stadium this Sunday, 5 February in the W-League semi-final, followed by the Central Coast Mariners match up with Adelaide United Football Club.

General Manager of Venues Canberra, Liz Clarke, encourages all Canberrans to get behind the games and in particular to support the United Players and help lift them in their finals campaign.

There is a strong enthusiasm in the community for football and as we head towards the local football season, this is a great opportunity for kids to see top-class soccer in a great venue.

The Canberra United W-League semi-final against Melbourne City FC will kick off at 2pm (gates open at 1pm), with the Central Coast Mariners v Adelaide United kick off at 5pm.

“Canberrans have a great tradition of coming out to support their local teams, particularly during the finals and we want you and your family to be there,” Ms Clarke said.

With hot weather expected on Sunday its important spectators dress appropriately and remember hats, sunscreen and to stay hydrated. Refillable water drinking stations are available around the ground.

Catch a free bus from Tuggeranong, Belconnen, Woden, Gungahlin or the City with free return services departing GIO Stadium approximately 20 minutes after the A-League game. For details view the charter timetable on the Transport Canberra website. Free parking is also available.
